An elementary school in Yukon is changing its dismissal system.
An elementary school in Yukon is changing its dismissal system after a mom said her 5-year-old left the school unaccompanied and walked alone to a nearby splash pad.
A mom posted to Facebook saying her child told her he walked over to the nearby splash pad while waiting to be picked up after school. KOCO 5 asked the school about the incident and they said they are now upgrading their dismissal protocol since it happened.

According to his mother, a child at Skyview Elementary in Yukon left the rest of his peers and walked alone over to the splash pad next to the school. The district explained in a statement that the student did leave the school while waiting for his parents to pick him up but they said the student was never in any danger.
They went on to say they are now in the process of implementing a better dismissal protocol. KOCO 5 asked why they believed the child was not in danger and they responded by saying the 5-year-old walked to the north side of the rebuilding where he was quickly found and brought back to the classroom until his mom picked him up.

They further explained the student never left the school property.
Yukon Public Schools said parents, bus drivers and teachers will see the new dismissal system in a few weeks.
